Good Medicine
03:58
|
|||
our souls grow like square watermelon
deprived of space and cut off from light
what we need is some good medicine
to heal our wounds and to give us sight
so many lifetimes have passed us by
but with our angels we will fly
a feather from their wings will take us through the night
a dose of something strong and bright
what we need is some good medicine
all of us here are starving for love
none of us has come far
let go of your arrogance and look around you
it's in our bones and it's in our stars

Promised Land
03:25
|
|||
well it's nothing but an honor to hold your hand
it's nothing but an honor to be your friend
and walking beside you i understand
that we're walking in the promised land
every day i'm alive i gotta thank the lord
sure enough i don't know if i've got too many more
just like a wave coming to crash on the shore
say it on my grave, "my name written in water"
well it's nothing but an honor to walk in these shoes
it's nothing but an honor to sing these blues
and walking beside you i ain't got nothing to lose
i'm just watching our dreams coming true
only here for a while so i love while i can
for a year or a mile, baby let's walk it hand in hand
just like the child is the father of the man
i wanna watch it grow, just wanna do the best i can

Give Me A Song
03:45
|
|||
give me a song for my long walk home
give me a song so i don't feel alone
honey play me something on that old silvertone
give me a song for my long walk home
give me a song for my broken heart
give me a song i know right from the start
baby i'm not even trying to be smart
just give me a song for my broken heart
give me something to believe in
give me something that's gonna make me feel brave
give me something that i'm feeding, give me something shedding light
making shadows on the walls of the cave
give me a song, help me with my grief
give me a song, i need to feel some relief
honey i know that my life is brief
so give me a song to help me with my grief
give me a song, one that i can share
give me a song, help me remember i care
i just need to know that there's someone out there
give me a song that i can share

Wondering
04:41
|
|||
wondering if i'll ever find my way again
if i'm just a little leaf in the wind
i'm wondering
everything will be lost to time
there's nothing i can bring, i'll even lose my mind
so why even sing
i'm wondering
can't keep track of all the different hands i'm shaking
who's gonna hold my hand when my heart is breaking
i don't know
trying to build the strength just to face another day
i'm always wondering if it could be some other way
but i just won't let it show
there's gotta be something left behind
an old pine tree or an orange rind
eternity will swallow everything that i have ever loved
part of me is still running wild
my mind is free and the future isn't ours to see
possibly
can't keep track of all the different hands i'm shaking
who's gonna hold my hand when my heart is breaking
i don't know
stevie sang be calm and keep yourself together
so i'd best hold on and hope it all gets better
wondering if i'll find the words to say again
for now i'll just be on my way again

I Just Can't Wait
03:31
|
|||
dead tree, dead tree, when did you come down?
been up all night hanging through the storm
waiting for something to be born
i know i shouldn't hang around here anymore
and i just can't wait to see what makes it through the storm
i've been up in the mountains, seen the ancient pines
so far they've survived the ravages of time
we bottle up the water, the hills are filled with smoke
throw it in the ocean and let the fishes choke

Lionhearted
03:24
|
|||
i've been afraid, i couldn't find the nerve
now i'm finding the courage
free from my cage, i'm gonna sing it like a bird
now i'm finding the courage
i'm gonna give it all i can
i'm gonna stand up for my friends
i'm gonna give it all i'm worth
gonna stand up for the earth
it can be scary to wander off from the herd
now i'm finding the courage
cause i'm not a fighter, i'm a lover, i just want to merge
now i'm finding the courage
i'm gonna give it all i can
i'm gonna stand up to the man
i'm gonna give it all i'm worth
gonna stand up for the earth
if i only had the nerve
i'd dig deep into the dirt
there ain't no wizard in this world
who can give us what we already have
well what can i say
you only get what you think you deserve
now i'm finding the courage
into the oyster
you gotta dive to get the pearl
now i finally found the nerve
i'm digging deep into the dirt
through the shame and through the hurt
to be the lion that i always was

My Friend Guitar
03:25
|
|||
i got it when i was a teenager cause i wanted to sound like lou reed
i've had it for so long now that it feels like it's a part of me
it's got great action, yeah you know it's got great tone
i wouldn't want to smash it cause then i'd be all alone
sounds great in the studio and it sounds great in a bar
it's my favorite guitar, my friend guitar
like my hero neil says, "it's only mine for a while"
don't know who had it before me but i'm sure it made them smile
it wasn't expensive but you know it wasn't free
nothing lasts forever but i hope it has a legacy
i always want it around me so i keep it in the trunk of my car
it's my favorite guitar, my friend guitar
i don't want hank's guitar, i don't think i could afford it
you might say it's a throw-away but i like it enough to record it
now the brand name's faded off the scratched up old headstock
me & this guitar have maybe taken a coupla knocks
i don't have a collection, i don't need a museum piece
i just wanna play the chords for i shall be released
the only thing that's easy when life can be so hard
it's my favorite guitar, my friend guitar

I Feel You
04:07
|
|||
i'm always trying to prove you wrong for no reason
i guess i just can't stand to get along
but i wanna be more generous, tis the season
i like to think i've got a lot of love
i'm tired of always trying to be right
and i feel it, i can feel it tonight
i'm scared that maybe everything i know amounts to nothing
maybe i don't even know myself
but i know what love is & that's something
even if it's all that i've got left
i'm tired of always trying to be right
honey i feel you, i feel you tonight

Havasu
04:28
|
|||
havasu, havasu, place where all the water's blue
i know i'm just passing thru havasu, havasu
havasu, havasu hope i make it back to you
swear to go my aim is true havasu, havasu
oh my darlin clementine
don't you ever lose your shine
pray one day i'll make you mine
if that's alright with you
you know i wanna meet you there
sitting in your camping chair
we'll swim in our underwear
til the flashfloods come thru
clear blue water
that clear blue water
breaking down the dams
havasu, havasu, place where all the water's blue
i know i'm just passing thru havasu, havasu
havasu, havasu hope i make it back to you
swear to go my aim is true havasu, havasu
it's a feeling i can't forget
my brow is dripping sweat
eating wild watercress
up at thunder falls
when i die bury me
underneath the willow tree
so i can hear the symphony
of coyote calls
clear blue water
that clear blue water
that turquoise water
running through the land
havasu, havasu, place where all the water's blue
i know i'm just passing thru havasu, havasu
havasu, havasu hope i make it back to you
swear to go my aim is true havasu, havasu
some day baby the dam will break
free the river from the lake
things just take the time they take

Echo
04:49
|
|||
hear the loons calling out over lake damariscotta
echoing around and around
til all i've got left is a vague nostalgia
of that haunting beautiful sound
i still have your ashes sitting on my piano
in a mug that you made by hand
erin told me to take them on an adventure
but nobody knows what you had planned
oh my dear friend
where have you gone?
i've been praying by the waterside
wishing you were still here, still alive
i still can remember the last time we spoke
i think it was your 42nd birthday
both of us knew you didn't have much time left
but i just didn't know what to say
i wish i had asked you what you wanted me to sing
when we held a memorial for you
but i just picked something that i thought you might like
hoping that it would ring true
oh my dear friend
where have you gone?
i've been praying by the waterside
wishing you were still here, still alive
i can't believe that you're gone
in the end you were so thin
quick as a candle that burned at both ends
with your eyes shining brighter than diamonds
i still see you in the nettles and in mountain laurel flowers
by the rhododendron path where we walked
and i'll always remember you with your feet in the water
by the stream where we used to walk my dog
